Godfrey Mahachi
Dr Godfrey Mahachi is the Executive Director of National Monuments and Monuments of Zimbabwe Prior to his current appointment, he was the Deputy Executive Director for about 10 years, before to which he served his organisation in different capacities which include Director of the Great Zimbabwe Monument and Southern Region of NMMZ, as well as Deputy Regional Director and then Regional Director for Northern, based here in Harare at the Zimbabwe Museum of Human Sciences.
Dr. Mahachi studied History at the University of Zimbabwe where he graduated with a BA (Hons) degree. In the context of National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe’s post independence staff development programme, he was admitted by Pembroke College, University of Cambridge, where he graduated with Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Archaeology. He then worked for NMMZ in various curatorial positions, in the area of archaeology. He has also developed keen interest in the discipline of Heritage Management given National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe’s heritage management mandate.
Currently, Dr Mahachi is a member of Council of the Great Zimbabwe University and is also a member of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Board of Directors.
