MAY 2011 All FOG members are warmly invited to attend the FOG Annual General Meeting on the 16th of May at 13.00 p.m. in the North Gallery of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe. FOG is an established committee with many years of service, a wealth of experience and with a dedicated collection of people promoting and supporting the activities of the National Gallery. On show will be some of the recent works that FOG has acquired for the Permanent Collection. If you would like to become more involved with the visual arts please do come and join us as we are looking for new committee members. Refreshments will be served at the meeting. The Harare Gallery recently opened an exhibition in partnership with HIFA and UNESCO titled Beyond Borders. On show are works by artists such as Lawrence Chikwa, Uhuru Kgope, Miriam Kiyambi, Sabine Kutt, Gideon Gomo and Nancy Mteki, from as far as Kenya, Zambia, Botswana, Uganda, Mozambique, Sweden, Germany, UK together with Zimbabwe. The exhibition will run until the 30th of May. The National Gallery of Zimbabwe will this year be celebrating the International Museum Day on the 18th of May. The Gallery is partly a museum, and it would like to recognize and uplift the role that museums play by taking part on the day by preserving our historical collection. The Museums Day 2011 which runs under the theme Museum and Memory will focus in particular on Africa, a continent whose cultural contribution to the world is often unknown and deserves to be promoted. The Gallery came up with its own sub-theme titled Your Museum History. This will look at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe community, that is, the staff and their contribution in creating memories over the years, we look at what their experience of working at NGZ has contributed. On this day you will have a one on one with Gallery staff who will share with you their experiences. Attending schools can pay a set fee of $30 and $1 for individuals (this fee does not apply to members of Friends of the Gallery). Mutare Gallery will be opening an exhibition “BEFORE THE DAWN” by three Harare based artists namely Ngonidzashe Tsiga (2011 NAMA Award winner), Johnson Zuze (2010 NAMA Nominee) and Clive Mukucha (2010 NAMA Nominee). It will be officially opened by the former Mutare Gallery Director Mrs. Judy Mutunhu. We would like to congratulate Mr. Clifford Zulu as the Curator of Bulawayo Gallery. |
