20 CHIRENJE ANDREW FOR SCHOOL FEESCHIHOTA RURAL AREAPC 2006 0006For My School Fees by Andrew Chirenje

The artwork, For My School Fees portrays a young boy carrying a huge pile of firewood on his head. This piece connotes the idea that the boy will sell the firewood in order to raise money to pay for his school fees. This week we celebrate the International Day of Families under the theme: “Families, education and well-being”. This observance focuses on raising awareness of the role of families in promoting early childhood education and lifelong learning opportunities for children and the youth.

The Family is an important unit of society, and the International Day of Families aims to discuss the importance of knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development.

Family' is a single word, with many different meanings. People have many ways of defining a family and what being a part of a family means to them, but most families share a strong common thread of interest, identity, beliefs and unity.
For my School fees is a color photograph which was acquired by the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in 2006.
