This week we are celebrating the International day of co-operatives. The International Day of Cooperatives is observed on the first Saturday of July each year. Some of the day's goals are to increase awareness on cooperatives, as well as strengthen and extend partnerships between the international cooperative movement and other supporting organizations including governments.
The significance of cooperatives have been acknowledged as associations and enterprises through which citizens can effectively improve their lives whereby citizens themselves rely on self-help and their own responsibility to meet goals that include not only economic but social and environmental objectives, such as overcoming poverty, securing productive employment and encouraging social integration while contributing to the economic, social, cultural and political advancement of their community and nation.
Giving an example of ants his work highlights that Cooperatives are important in the world's economic and social development. Based as on the principle of cooperation, cooperatives help create new ethics and values in business and economics.
