Voti Thebe was born in Bulawayo on 9th December 1953 and studied art at the Mzilikazi Art and Craft Centre from 1970 to 1973. At various times he has been a
sculptor, painter, graphic artist, performer and a textilist. A key figure in the development of contemporary art in Matebeland, Voti Thebe has contributed immensely to raising the profile of contemporary Zimbabwean art. In recognition of his outstanding achievements in the arts, Voti has won several awards that include: President’s Award of Distinction, and a NAMA award for Outstanding Achievement in the Visual Arts (2003).
