The Outreach Programme is an initiative to equip School Teachers and Art Educators with the necessary skills to develop artistic talent within their faculties. The Education and Public Programmes Department facilitates Workshops at a District level where they advise educational professionals on matters pertaining to the universal tenets of art according to syllabus and national curriculum as such there is a theoretical and practical transfer to the tutors which can easily be transferred to their learners.
Of note, Outreach and art clubs workshops are run by a team comprising the National Gallery of Zimbabwe's Education Officer, the National Gallery School of Visual Art and Design's art instructors; whom are all practising artists and final year students from the school, who have attained literacy as to the teaching of art.
The Reading Group sessions that are tied into the Outreach Programme provide a space in which students can discuss theoretical material that is relevant to Art as a subject; philosophy and practice are essential elements that are examined therein. The Reading Group meets bi-weekly and membership is free. Readings are available on request via email or can be collected from the Gallery's Reception desk a week before each session.
Interested parties, must confirm attendance in advance by contacting the Education Officer on 704666/7 Extension 30.
