Commitment By Portia Zvavahera
The overall plight of the woman is summarized in this composition; kneeling before the crucifix, submissive to her faith- contextually it may be religious,
her work or her family at the altar of life in its generality. White and off- white dominate the composition, a metaphor of the purity and clarity that surround the woman, the grey areas that exist therein are the presence of threats against her person and well-being. The red of the doorway are cues to nature, intermingling with her garments and her flesh, the space in between is a pathway that represents a journey from clear aperture to what she has become resultantly.
