DAVID PALACIOS - POINT OF VIEW
NATIONAL GALLERY OF ZIMBABWE

David Palacios (1967), Cuba-UK.

Belongs to a generation of artists whose proposals relate to the newest languages. His work deals with the deconstruction of works of art and the multiple fields related to this notion. Palacios also carries out an intertextual analysis of the work as a product and the context that sponsors it, employing institutional connections of all sorts. Using various indicators, comparative charts, percentile analysis and statistical diagrams, the artist shows the complexity of these relationships. In many cases, he alludes to corrupted associations that transform the work into a mere symbol destined for commercialization and marketing. Palacios has participated with other artists in various group projects, and has shown his work as installations as well as in traditional formats.

He has exhibited his work in: - Lagos Biennial, Lagos, Nigeria. - 48th Venice Biennale, Venice, Italy. - African Artist Foundation, Lagos, Nigeria. - National Museum Reina Sofia, Madrid, Spain. - BALTIC, Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, UK. - South London Gallery, London, UK - Essex Collection of Latin American Art, University of Essex, Colchester, UK. - Americas Society Art Gallery, New York, USA. - Wifredo Lam Contemporary Art Center, Havana, Cuba. - Häsinglands Museum, Hudiksval, Sweden. - Fondazione Studio Marangoni, Florence, Italy. - Medellín Biennale, Museum of Antioquia, Medellín, Colombia. - San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery, San Francisco, California, USA - Salt Lake Art Center, Utah, USA., DeVos Art Museum, Michigan, USA. - First Floor Gallery, Harare, Zimbabwe.
