Our Artists

Name of Artist: Regis Manja

Date of Birth: 28 October 1977

Regis Manja was born in Marondera, Zimbabwe. He did his primary and secondary education in an urban setting thus he recognizes it as the source of his art. From the age of 10 Manja has been fascinated by photographs in newspapers, which he studied and copied until that became too boring for him and he tried to do something more challenging like drawing portraits in front of him. He quickly developed considerable drafting skills as well as a sense of form and composition.

Despite his parents’ wishes for him to do agriculture because he achieved good results, Regis resolved to get a place at the National Gallery’s BAT workshop in 1997, where he studied for 3 years. Regis Manja has participated in many group exhibitions and has received some awards in sculpture. At present he is a resident artist at Friends Forever art centre in Ruwa.
