Refocus At 30
Artists Under 30 years
1 to 15 April 2010
So much has happened in Zimbabwe in the last 30 years that the young artists who have lived through this era would need to look back to rethink and Refocus and search deeper down into themselves. This will encourage the young contemporary artist to research into a line of thought where they move away from the usual, the traditional, the well known and the ordinary into an area of the unexpected, the unexplored, the new, the nontraditional and the world of surprises and deep imagination through use of art on Paper and as a creative material for making art.

A determined look into the past 30 years will surely provide fodder for the artist to sift through and draw out very intriguing artistic ideas.

David Chinyama

David’s performance takes us through this dramatic journey representing every Zimbabwean at home or in the diaspora today. A full display of works provided will be on display during the first two weeks of April.

HIFA
‘About Face’
28 April to 3 May 2010
As always expected of HIFA this year they have come up yet again with another unique theme titled About Face. About Face is open to interpretation and serves as a catalyst for tremendous creativity. It has been described as meaning “a complete change of opinion or attitude”, thus the theme calls artists to consider new vantage points, ideas and inspiration at a time when moving forward is about facing the future.

The exhibitions that are opening at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe during  and by HIFA and curated by James Wright portray the message that says when you can not change anything else, the one thing you can nonetheless always change, is your attitude.
